A one-week State-Level Faculty Development Programme (FDP) on the theme “Envisioning Learning Spectrum” is being held from 7th to 13th November 2024. The event is organized by the NAAC Steering Committee and the Research & Development Cell of Dimapur Government College (DGC), in collaboration with the Directorate of Higher Education, Government of Nagaland, and in association with the Bank of Baroda, Dimapur. The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), DGC, is also supporting the programme. The Faculty Development Programme is being conducted in both online and offline modes.
The inaugural session was chaired by Sedevino Jakhalu, HoD of Political Science at DGC, with a welcome address by Dr Vinyuhu Lhoungu, Coordinator of IQAC. Er Daniel Meren, Additional Director at NIELIT, Dimapur, was the resource person for the first session and spoke on “Artificial Intelligence Tools in Teaching and Learning.” He focused on various tools and aspects that can be used in educational settings to enhance efficiency and engagement, noting their potential to transform educational approaches.
The second session was chaired by Dr I Moakala, from the Department of Economics, with Lezo Putsure, Founder and CEO of Educentre School of Business, Dimapur, as the resource person. The topic of discussion was “Entrepreneurship,” where Putsure shared his experiences on thinking like an entrepreneur by viewing every problem as an opportunity. He emphasized the many avenues available in entrepreneurship and the role of educators in guiding the younger generation towards entrepreneurial pursuits, beyond just relying on government jobs.
On day two, the third session was chaired by Dr Meripeni Ngully, HoD of History, with Dr I Wati Imchen, Principal of Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, as the resource person. Speaking on “Career Progression in Higher Education,” Dr Imchen highlighted the promising nature of the profession for those dedicated to it. He provided insights on navigating challenges in the evolving educational landscape and offered tips on career progression, while reminding everyone of the importance of professional ethics.
The fourth session was chaired by Lily Rino, from the Department of History, with Prof. Shiv Shankar Das, Senior Manager of NPTEL & BS Program Office, IIT Madras, as the resource person. Speaking on “SWAYAM NPTEL Awareness,” Prof. Das discussed the benefits of the SWAYAM-NPTEL initiative by the Ministry of Education, Government of India, which offers online courses through the MOOCs format. He explained how to enroll in these courses and earn certifications.
Each session of the FDP concludes with a Q&A session, where participants have the opportunity to discuss the topic and clarify any queries. The remaining sessions of the FDP will continue next week with various other resource persons.
