Kohima, 27 July (MTNews): The State Level Science, Mathematics & Environment Exhibition 2023 was held at Ura Academy Hall, Kohima, organized by the Directorate of School Education in collaboration with the District Education Office, Kohima. The event, held under the theme “Technology and Toys,” aimed to promote scientific curiosity and environmental awareness among students while highlighting the role of technology in shaping the world. Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, Advisor for School Education and SCERT, graced the occasion as the Special Guest.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Kekhrielhoulie Yhome emphasized the significance of toys in a child’s development, stating that they bring excitement and curiosity, fostering a desire to explore the underlying principles. He stressed that toys can serve as powerful educational tools, enabling children to learn about various concepts in an engaging and interactive manner. Emphasizing the importance of science and technology in today’s society, Dr Yhome praised its role in simplifying daily life and urged for its ethical and positive application for the betterment of humanity.

 

Reflecting on the progress of the Naga society, Dr Yhome acknowledged the rapid transition from a historical head-hunting culture to embracing modern advancements. He called for exemplary leadership with a strong vision to guide the community towards a prosperous future. Encouraging students to unleash their creativity and think without bounds, he emphasized the role of education in shaping future leaders.

 

Director of School Education, Wonthungo Tsopoe also spoke during the program. He thanked the participating schools for being part of the exhibition despite the short notice. He said the exhibition was organized on the directive from the Ministry at the centre.

 

Tsopoe highlighted that “one-way teaching” is prevalent in the State where only the teacher teaches. He commented on the need for more interactions between the teacher and students. He called upon the teachers to give their best and nurture the students.

 

Chief Mentor, Innovation Hub and Space Education Center, Nagaland Science Centre, Onongoto Solehol gave an expert talk on the theme “Technology and Toys.”

 

Patricia Vizo delivered the welcome address while a vote of thanks was proposed by Assistant Director, School Education, Gloria Ezung.
