An alleged case of severe child abuse involving an 11-year-old girl has led to the arrest of the accused stepmother, following a coordinated police operation across multiple districts in Nagaland.

According to a statement released by the Nagaland Police, the case was first reported on June 29, 2025, at around 7:00 PM, when a written complaint was received at Pfutsero Police Station from Kuzholuyi, a resident of Rukizu Colony, Pfutsero, alleging “severe abuse of an 11 (eleven) year old child allegedly by her stepmother.”

During the investigation, it was found that the alleged accused had “moved from Pfutsero to Chümoukedima before the FIR was filed,” police said. However, when a team reached the Chümoukedima address, “she absconded from that Chümoukedima address also in the early morning hours.”

Despite the initial escape, Police said that “through sustained efforts and utilizing all available means, the alleged accused was arrested later on.” The arrest was made by a team from Phek Police with assistance from Chümoukedima and Dimapur Police, after tracing the accused to Diphupar Police Station jurisdiction.

She was subsequently brought back to Phek district.

The case has been registered under Women PS Case No. 0002/25 U/S 109/115(2) BNS R/W 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act. Police confirmed that investigation is ongoing on as per legal procedures.

“Victim is in safe place receiving care protection and counseling at Sakhi One Stop centre Phek and treatment at Phek district hospital,” the statement said.

The Phek Police thanked the various civil society organizations and the general public for their continued faith, trust and support in Phek police’s endeavour of maintaining a peaceful atmosphere in the district.

It also requested all citizens to keep coordinating with Phek Police in future also. At same time, the Phek Police urged everyone to refrain from any kind of child abuse/cruelty to children, as it is a punishable crime under section 75 of Juvenile justice act 2015.
