Chattisgarh, 12 June (MTNews): 42 students from Nagaland departed for Chhattisgarh today as part of the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, Yuva Sangam Phase-II program. Yuva Sangam, launched by the Indian Government on 6 February 2023, aims to foster cultural exchange and unity between the Northeast Region and the rest of the country.

During their week-long stay, the students will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the cultural heritage of Raipur, the capital city of Chhattisgarh. They will actively participate in a variety of cultural, technical, and entertainment events, enhancing their understanding and appreciation of different traditions and practices.

 

Yuva Sangam is a multidimensional initiative that combines sightseeing, cultural exchange, and interactions to promote a deeper understanding and connection among the states of Northeast India and the rest of the country. Under this program, Higher Educational Institutions from different regions pair up to exchange students and achieve the objectives of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.

 

For this particular phase, Nagaland has been paired with Chhattisgarh, with the National Institute of Technology, Raipur (NITR) acting as the host Higher Educational Institution. Joining the students from Nagaland are four faculty members from the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Nagaland, which serves as the guest Higher Educational Institution.

 

 

Yuva Sangam: Bridging cultures and empowering Nagaland’s Youth

 

A flag off ceremony took place for Nagaland students at NIT Nagaland, Chumukedima. Dr Ranjit Prasad Acharya, the former Director and Deputy Legal Advisor of the Department of Atomic Energy Mumbai, addressed the event as the Chief Guest. He highlighted the significant role of the youth in the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, emphasizing that societal development relies heavily on their involvement.

 

Dr Acharya emphasized that 55 percent of the country’s population comprises young people and the government has a policy to integrate them into society for development. He called upon the students, representing Nagaland, to showcase the good habits, principles, and ethics of the Nagas to the people of Chhattisgarh. He advised them to engage in discussions and exchange ideas with the locals and incorporate them into our society for development.

 

Dr Kedar Nath Das, an Associate Professor from the Department of Mathematics at NIT Silchar, addressed the program as the Guest of Honour. He commended the Yuva Sangam initiative of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aiming to bridge the gap between the youth of Northeast India and the rest of the country through cultural exchange programs under the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat initiative.

 

Dr Das encouraged the students to embrace the TTDPT motto during their visit, which stands for Tourism, Tradition, Development, People-to-People contact, and Technology. He urged them to seize this opportunity to learn about the cultures of other regions and integrate them with their unique culture.

 

Speaking at the event, Dr S Venugopal, the Director of NIT Nagaland, emphasized that although the people of our country are culturally united, their expressions of culture differ. He stressed the importance of girls and women participating in all fields for the progress and development of the country. Professor Venugopal expressed his delight at the significant presence of girl students in the exchange program. He encouraged the students to revitalize their culture and promote the positive aspects of other cultures for the welfare and development of society.

 

Dr Rosang Pongen, the Nodal Officer for Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Nagaland state and Associate Dean of Student Affairs at NIT Nagaland, welcomed the guests and students. He stated that the main objective of the program is to showcase the positive aspects of Nagaland and urged the students to embody positive ethics and habits as Ambassadors of the state.

 

The students will participate in various programs at NIT Raipur from 15 to 19 June. They will return to Nagaland on 20 June. Meanwhile, 42 students along with four faculty members from Chhattisgarh will arrive in Nagaland on 15 June as exchange students for the Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, Yuva Sangam Phase-II program. The students will have a week-long stay to experience and explore the culture and traditions of Nagaland, hosted by NIT Nagaland.

 

The Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Yuva Sangam is a collaborative effort of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Culture, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, and the Ministry of Development of the North Eastern Region.
