Khongsa, 22 January (MTNews): In a unified stance, the joint students’ unions of Khongsa Block, comprising Moya, Amikiuro, Betang, Fakim, Hakkomute, Khong, Khongjiri, Khongka, Khongsa, Longkhimvong, Lopfukhong, Mimi, Mutingkhong, Penkim, Salomi, Sangtsuwong, Thanamir, Thruntsuvong, Tsungdang, Tsurevong, and Vongtsuwong Village Students’ Unions, have pledged their full support to the Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako (YAA) 14-day ultimatum directed at the Department of School Education, Nagaland.
The YAA has called for the urgent deployment of an adequate number of teachers in government schools across Yimkhiung jurisdictions.
The students’ unions said in a joint statement, “The department’s not redressing the issue of acute shortages of teachers when the YAA has already submitted representations displays the department’s prejudice, which is very unbecoming.”
In compliance with the YAA directive, the joint students’ unions have decided to restrict the admission process for the current academic session within the Khongsa Block region.
“Therefore, all the heads of institutions under Khongsa Block are informed that the same is kept in abeyance with immediate effect until further intimation is made. Any institutions under Khongsa Block defying this will face befitting actions, and the defaulter shall be held accountable for any adverse consequences that may follow,” the joint statement said.
While affirming their support for the YAA’s demand, the joint students’ unions expressed optimism that the Department of School Education will respond judiciously and promptly. They emphasized that the growth and progress of schools and students are hindered by the persistent shortage of teachers. The unions cautioned that if the situation escalates, the consequences will be severe, and the department will be held responsible.
