Attendees of the Sümi Baghi Hoho (Sümi General Public Meeting) held at the Multi-Purpose Hall in Zunheboto on July 26, 2024.

The main resolution, read by Resolution Committee Convenor Vihoshe Mürü, addressed the adoption of Naga children, affirming no objections to such adoptions. However, it specified that if a non-Naga child is adopted, they should not be given a Sümi name or a no-objection certificate for Scheduled Tribe and Indigenous Inhabitant Certificates. Additionally, adopted non-locals will not have hereditary property rights or village chieftains’ rights and will face severe penalties if they undermine or deceive the Sümi community.

The gathering, attended by over 1,000 people from various walks of life, also featured remarks by G Kaito Aye, who outlined ongoing and upcoming development projects in the district. Aye urged the Sümi Kükami to lead with integrity and dedication, called for recognition of outstanding GBs (Gaon Burahs) and stressed the need for action against GBs and retired government servants involved in underground factions that hinder progress.

Y Kikheto Sema, IAS, Commissioner & Secretary, commended the Sümi Frontal Organizations for organizing the event and urged the community to maintain peaceful relations with other Naga tribes and use social media responsibly. He requested the Sümi to refrain from the negative use of social media. He discouraged GBs from involving themselves in faction groups and emphasized the need for clean elections, noting that Sümi has the highest election expenditure, and thus the public shouldn’t blame politicians for the lack of development.

The program began with an invocation by Rev Inakhu Sümi, Pastor of Zunheboto Town Sümi Baptist Church, and the President’s address was delivered by I Nikheto Jimomi, President of the Sümi Hoho. Jimomi expressed gratitude to Sümi legislators, past and present leaders, church members, and supporters. Miss Tolino Chishi was honored for her success in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) examination.
