The Sumi Baghi Hoho has passed a resolution to halt all forms of taxation imposed by various Naga Political Groups (NPGs) in Sumi-inhabited areas from January 1, 2025, unless they come under a single unified framework.

The resolution, adopted on July 20, 2024, was conveyed by ADC Aghunato, D. Robin, following a representation submitted by the Asuto Tokukujo Kukami Kuqhakulu (ATKK). The move is aimed at eliminating multiple taxation, which has led to economic burden, harassment, and corruption, impacting ordinary citizens and hindering economic progress.

The Hoho emphasized that various NPGs currently collect taxes separately, creating confusion and financial strain. By enforcing a blanket ban on these payments, it seeks to push for Naga unity, transparency, and accountability in taxation.

The ATKK, representing 20 villages in Zunheboto district, has pledged full support for the resolution and affirmed that it will strictly enforce the decision without exception. It called upon all Naga Political Groups to unify, stating that a sustainable economic framework will benefit all citizens.

Additionally, the ATKK has issued guidelines for developmental works in its jurisdiction. Contractors and firms must adhere strictly to the Detailed Project Report (DPR) prepared by the government. The organization warned that use of substandard materials or deviation from project guidelines will result in legal action.

The ATKK has urged contractors and stakeholders to report any instances of coercion, extortion, or intimidation by individuals or groups. It warned that failure to report such cases would result in withdrawal of ATKK’s support for the project.

Further, it directed government departments to withhold work completion certificates until projects undergo quality checks in the presence of ATKK representatives. The organization assured full cooperation to ensure accountability and transparency in development activities.
