Zunheboto, 14 April (MTNews): The Sümi Hoho has urged the Government of Nagaland to desist from recognizing “unmandated organizations and organizations beyond the state of Nagaland” to discuss issues pertaining to the state of Nagaland.
According to a press release issued by the Sümi Hoho, Nagaland is a state uniquely created out of political compulsion with special provisions to safeguard the indigenous social and customary practices and, therefore, the Sümi Hoho along with the rest of the tribal hohos will firmly stand to protect the rights and identity of the Nagas.
Reiterating their January 13, 2023 resolution of the tribal hohos of Nagaland that, “Any organization claiming to represent and stand for the interest of the Nagas, should be routed and mandated through the tribal apex bodies,” the Hoho reminded that the Sümi Hoho has recalled Sümi Totimi Hoho (STH), an apex Sümi women’s body from Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) on February 4, 2017.
According to them, they recalled STH from NMA as it was evident that NMA had lost its direction and because the Sümi Hoho felt that the “good image and role of the STH should never be compromised whatsoever.”
However, according to the Hoho, even after being denounced by the tribal bodies, “few individuals on the pretext of fighting for women’s rights’ are diluting our social fabric and therefore, is unacceptable.”
The Sümi Hoho, however, stated that they stand for women empowerment and are not averse to women reservation exercise, provided it is time bound.
“There should be no discrimination, be it men or women. The Hoho will be happy to see more Naga women, not only in Municipal and Town Committees, but at the state and national level playing active politics,” it added.
