The Sümi Hoho and the Western Sümi Hoho have strongly condemned the tragic murder of 36-year-old Hutoshi Chophi, allegedly killed by her husband, Kughato Yepthomi, on February 9 at Aphuyesa, Thilixu Village.

In a statement, the Sümi Hoho denounced the act as “heinous” and an affront to the moral fabric of society. “Such acts of domestic violence are abhorrent and have no place in our society. They not only shatter the sanctity of family but also deeply wound the moral fabric of our community,” stated Sümi Hoho President Dr. Vihuto Asumi.

Commending the Nagaland Police for their swift action in apprehending the accused, who was caught while in hiding after the incident, the Sümi Hoho urged law enforcement agencies to ensure that justice is served swiftly and decisively. “It is imperative that the perpetrator faces the full extent of the law to deter such acts in the future and uphold the rule of law,” it said.

The Western Sümi Hoho (WSH), in a separate statement, expressed deep shock and distress over the brutal crime, describing it as an “inhumane act” that has sent shockwaves through the community. “This heinous crime has created an atmosphere of fear and trauma. Such acts of violence pose a significant threat to our social fabric,” the WSH stated, urging all responsible citizens to condemn the atrocity.

The WSH called for the “severest punishment possible” for the accused and extended its condolences to the bereaved family.
