Sunbird Trust has successfully completed a scholarship distribution drive, providing Rs 1,200 each to 1,000 children across 26 government schools, primarily in Eastern Nagaland, between 12 and 15 November 2025. The initiative was generously supported by a major corporate donor, while the Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), along with Eleutheros Christian Society (ECS), played a key role in its implementation by identifying government schools in the remotest villages of the eastern Nagaland districts to ensure smooth execution.
The initiative, specifically designed to support students from government schools, aimed to ensure that financial assistance reaches families who need it most. A six-member team, along with the IDAN team, travelled deep into remote regions, often navigating difficult terrain, to personally hand over the scholarship amount to parents.
A parent from Tangnyu village in Mon district, whose daughter is in Class 5, shared: ”I have two children, a boy in Class 3 and a girl in Class 5. Both are good in their studies and usually come 2nd or 3rd in class. I depend on agriculture and orange cultivation for our livelihood. We have not received any scholarship before, so this scholarship means a lot to us. It will help my daughter in her studies. The Sunbird team even told me to reach out whenever we need support. I will use this entire amount only for her studies.”
“With sponsorships such as these, Sunbird Trust is ensuring that students from the remotest parts of our country get a fighting chance to achieve their dreams and an opportunity to create a pathway full of possibilities,” said Aliasgar Huseini Janjali, CEO, Sunbird Trust.
Established in 2014, Sunbird Trust is a non-religious and apolitical not-for-profit organisation working in remote and conflict-affected parts of Northeast India with the motto ‘Peace through Education’. It facilitates physical and financial access to education through building schools and hostels and providing child sponsorships. The organisation also engages with local communities in livelihood development and peace-building, helping create bridges between people in the region and their fellow citizens across India.
