Chumoukedima, August 8 (MTNews): Volunteers of Sovima Youth Organization on August 8 caught ‘Sunflower’ drug peddlers red handed while they were in the process of selling it to two customers. Two agents, identified as Keduolhoulie Angami and Beizolie Angami, both permanent residents of Sovima, were caught while the main culprit managed to flee the scene, Sovima Village Council said in a statement.

 

The customers have been identified as Chuba Phom and Chekhah Kano, and are presently residents of Medziphema town, it added.
“A Khaini/tobacco container filled with Sunflower drugs and another container filled with items used for inhaling the drugs, a syringe, Rs. 500 hundred and two smart phones were recovered from their possession,” the statement said.

 

The village council further said that three other addicts of “OSD” were also apprehended from the site. “They have been identified as Threiwang Awang Konyak, Wenkheng Jolyn Konyak and Yonem Konyak. Apparently, one out of the three is recovering addict and used to avail regular doses from Government outlets but bring them and distribute to others illegally in the village. All three are tenants in Sovima,” it added.

 

“During recording of their statements, it was found that the main supplier, who was present at the spot, managed to escape during the melee. He is reported to regularly visit his sister, a tenant of Sovima, and sell the drugs to customers. His details have been provided to the police,” the statement read.

 

The village council said that the apprehended individuals and seized items have been handed over to Chumoukedima Police Station. “It is hoped that the main suppliers shall be nabbed very soon and the village rid of drugs peddling in the near future,” it added.
