Merger leaves opposition-less MLAs ‘at the mercy’ of CM
Former Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) president, K Therie, has issued a strong reaction to the merger of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) with the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP), calling it a ”surrender to a 90-foot-tall money-idol.”
In his statement, Therie recalled that “the cock symbol had many names, but it had some respect because the pioneering leaders had high integrity.
Many of them were national patriots. They believed in nonviolent principles to endeavor to solve the noble political problem initiated in the Naga Hills Memorandum in 1929.”
However, he lamented that “today, NPF is no longer the same. Unlike in the past, in recent times, NPF and NDPP have compromised their morals with selfish corruption and surrendered their faith to Hindutva.”
Accusing the NPF of continuing to support the BJP despite alleged atrocities, he stated: “The BJP in collusion with NPF government sponsored the Manipur genocide against Christians. Christian sisters were paraded naked, raped and butchered, but the NPF continued to support the BJP Govt relentlessly.”
According to him, the party is now “diluted with Manipur and Arunachal. The dilution is responsible for intrusion, infiltration, occupation, multi-taxation, and extortion.”
Therie drew no distinction between the merging parties, remarking that “there is no difference between NPF and NDPP. They are only divorcées. Both parties are anti-Christian, anti-solution, anti-Nagas of Nagaland, and champions of corruption. They also have two common high commands.”
He reiterated that the merger was nothing but “a surrender to a 90-foot-tall money-idol.”
He went on to assert that with the merger, “the Hon’ble CM already has ‘absolute power to corrupt absolutely.’ With the merger, the Alliance will be at his mercy. The opposition-less Honourable Members may all end their tenure in confusion and with no answers to the voters.”
Expressing concern about external influence, he added: “It is the shocking truth that many of Nagaland’s Legislators, including top leaders, take orders from intruders. The intruders, with the support of the Nagaland Govt., have dominated Nagaland. People live under suppression, paying taxes to multiple self-styled governments. They kill, loot, and exploit Nagaland.”
Therie concluded that “after the merger, the cock symbol will represent anti-Christianity, a collaborator of Hindutva ideology, an anti-political solution party, an intruder, and the most corrupt party in the nation. The image of the beautiful cock symbol is now completely tarnished with stained leaders.”
Stating that his remarks were not for personal gain, he said: “I am not making statements for my chair or comfort, but I don’t want the Nagaland Legislative Assembly to leave a legacy of a subverted Nagaland. The generation deserves to inherit peace, dignity, and grace to live.”
