A gunfight broke out between suspected Naga insurgents and the Assam Rifles in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district in the early hours of Saturday, police said.
According to PTI, Tirap Superintendent of Police Aditya said the Assam Rifles personnel retaliated with light machine guns, which prompted the attackers to flee.
According to various media outlets, suspected militants from the proscribed ULFA-I and NSCN groups opened fire at the Assam Rifles camp in Noglo, under Lazu police station, between 3 am and 4 am.
According to reports, the incident occurred when the militants fired approximately 25 rounds of ammunition at the security installation. The Assam Rifles responded with LMG fire.
No casualties or damage were reported at the time of filing this report.
Security forces have since launched a combing operation in and around the area to trace the attackers.
The attack comes as security across the Northeast remains on high alert ahead of the national celebrations.
