The results of Swachh Survekshan, the world’s largest urban sanitation survey conducted by MoHUA since 2016, were declared on October 1 where President Droupadi Murmu felicitated the awardees of the cleanest States and cities. The award ceremony of Azadi@75 Swachh Survekshan 2022, hosted as part of Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban 2.0 by Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) was held at Talkatora Stadium, New Delhi. The award ceremony was organized to recognize the good work done for Swachhata by towns/ cities, States and Union Territories under Swachh Survekshan 2022 and certifications for Garbage Free Star rating for cities.
In the States Ranking, Nagaland was ranked 12 among the 14 states in the ‘States with less than 100 ULBs’ category. Meanwhile, in the ‘Cities with less than 10L’ category, Dimapur was ranked 376 and Kohima ranked 378 out of a total of 380 cities.
In the Zonal wise categories, none of the cities in Nagaland won any award. (See table)
Meanwhile, Mokokchung, which was awarded the Cleanest City in 2020 in the 25,000 to 50,000 population zonal category, fared rather unsatisfactorily in the Swachh Survekshan 2022.
Out of 32 cities in the NE Zone in the ‘Cities with 25,000 – 50,000 Population’ category, Mokokchung was ranked 25, slipping down 24 positions from where it was in 2020. In the same category, Tuensang was ranked 22 while Wokha, Chumoukedima and Mon were ranked 27, 28 and 29 respectively.
