Mokokchung, October 5 (MTNews): The IEC Awareness campaign on waste segregation (dry and wet waste) was held at Longchem Block on Saturday and was coordinated by WSSO, PHED, Mokokchung division. Participants in the program included community representatives from several villages under the block.

 

District IEC consultant Rongsentula, PHED, Mokokchung district, chaired the program. Tsungrosongla, the coordinator, stressed the need for waste segregation at the household level in her speech on the significance of waste segregation. She advised everyone in the community to practice composting biodegradable waste (wet waste) by constructing a compost pit in every household or at community level.

 

 

She also discussed the importance of managing plastic trash properly by following the 3 R’s: Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle in order to protect the environment.

 

The department also arranged a tree-planting program earlier on 29 September in Ungma village, where the WATSAN committee of the village took the main part. The plantation was done around the water bodies of the village.

 

 

The Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign, which began on September 15, ran through October 2, 2022.
