The Amahator Range Students’ Union has released a critical report following its 3rd annual Educational Tour, which took place on August 19-20, 2024. The objective of the tour was to evaluate the state of education within the range and ensure that the children receive the quality education they deserve. However, the findings revealed what the Union describes as a “shocking and unacceptable crisis” within the schools, demanding immediate and decisive intervention from both the government and district administration.

The union described the situation as “scandalous”. The report detailed that “teachers are blatantly violating service rules by frequently being absent without valid reasons,” resulting in “chaotic classrooms” and students being deprived of their fundamental right to education. This consistent neglect, according to the union, “not only constitutes a failure to fulfill their duties but also demonstrates a complete lack of respect for the standards expected of educational professionals.”

Furthermore, the report criticized certain schools for declaring “unofficial holidays,” worsening an already dire situation. This “blatant disregard for official schedules and responsibilities” represents a severe abuse of power and reflects “systemic failure within the educational system,” the union stated.

The Union highlighted the “alarming incompetence of many teachers,” noting that their lack of professionalism and commitment has led the schools to the “brink of collapse”.

The Union demanded that the government and district administration be held accountable for allowing this crisis to develop unchecked.

The Amahator Range Students’Union urged the government and district administration to take immediate and decisive action to address these issues. It demanded that strict attendance policies for teachers be enforced and asked thorough evaluations of teaching staff. It also demanded that the pervasive issue of unofficial holidays with zero tolerance be checked.

Furthermore, it asked for a complete overhaul of school management practice to restore order and effectiveness.

“The status quo is unacceptable and any further delay in addressing these issues will only exacerbate the damage and undermine the future of our educational institutions,” it said.

The Union asserted that “public patience is wearing thin,” and stresses that the time for “mere discussions and ineffective responses” has ended. They demand that the government take “decisive action now” to address these issues and prevent further deterioration of educational institutions. The call is clear: deliver “concrete solutions” and demonstrate a commitment to resolving this crisis “without delay.”
