A symbolic assertion and message of hope for the Naga people, says NSCN-IM

General Secretary and Ato Kilonser of NSCN/GPRN, Th. Muivah, is scheduled to return to his native village of Somdal on 22 October 2025, marking his first homecoming in over half a century. The visit will also include stops in Ukhrul and Senapati.

According to the latest editorial in Nagalim Voice, the mouthpiece of NSCN-IM, Muivah’s return is intended as a symbolic assertion that the Naga people’s aspiration for the Naga political solution must be carried forward with greater conviction and courage. The editorial described the homecoming as “a message of hope” and emphasized that the commitment of the Naga people is critical to carrying forward the Framework Agreement.

“The Naga people’s hope of finding a fruition after the 1997 Indo-Naga ceasefire came in 2015 when the historic Framework Agreement of the 3rd August, 2015 was signed,” it said.

The editorial highlighted the significance of the 2015 agreement, noting that it “captured the imagination of the Naga people” and protected the sovereign political identity of the Naga people, upholding the ideals of the freedom pioneers. It added that Muivah’s visit “after more than half a century is to tell his people in South Nagalim that he has not failed for what they have fought for at the cost of blood, sweats and tears.”

Reflecting on history, the editorial stated that the first Indo-Naga political talks during Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s era failed due to “lack of political craftsmanship on the part of Naga political negotiators.” In contrast, the editorial said, “the opportunity laid down before the Nagas with the highly rated and valued political agreement brought about by FA is something that the political observers around the world admired and praised the NSCN Naga political negotiators led by Chief Political Negotiator Th.Muivah as it stands out in accordance with the truth of Naga political history.”

The editorial concluded by urging the Naga people to uphold the principles championed through decades of struggle.

“This is the gift of our history and the price of our more than seven decades of struggle that involved blood sweats and tears. We have to uphold the principles that we have championed,” it maintained.
