Mokokchung, June 17 (MTNews): The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India has said that the Ao Naga tribe of Nagaland follow animism. The ministry took to its official Twitter handle to make this statement on June 13.
“Know Your Tribes!” it announced, before saying that the Ao Nagas follow animism and that they believe that the spirits should be appeased through a process of ceremonious celebrations.
The tweet was posted along with a picture of two gleeful girls in the foreground clad in traditional attire in what appeared to have been captured during a cultural event.
“Ao Naga Tribe of Nagaland is one of the major tribes of Nagaland, Northeast India. Their language is known to belong to the Tibeto-Burman family. They follow animism and believe that the spirits should be appeased through a process of ceremonious celebrations,” the ministry said in a series of tweets.
“Both men and women drape honorary shawls and adorn themselves with various ornaments,” it added.
