The present Government has no accountability on the State’s money: Shürhozelie

Zunheboto, November 25 (MTNews): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) President, Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu stated that the Nagas have remained silent for too long and that it is high time they spoke the truth of what was happening of their rights.

While pointing out the failure of the present Government on the economic policy for the people, Dr Shürhozelie maintained, “We are not accusing anybody but it is our right to speak the truth as the Government cannot suppress the people’s right.”

Addressing the NPF Zunheboto Division during the consultative meeting cum oath taking ceremony at Zunheboto multipurpose hall on Thursday, the NPF President said that the Government has failed in managing the public money, a release from the NPF Press Bureau said. He also urged the Government to utilize the money in appropriate ways, where the all round development reaches to the public. “If the Government spent the money for which it is taken for, then there will be visible development,” he said, and added that the present Government has no accountability on the State’s money.

Saying that the party is duty bound to disclose the truth, Dr Shürhozelie expressed his serious concern over the present Government on human resource development, and said that the Government has no program for uplifting human resource development.

The party President also reiterated that NPF is the regional party in the state where every Naga can be part of and stated that NPF belongs to the people of Nagaland as a whole and as much as he is a member of the party, all the Naga people are also members of this regional party.

He also said that NPF which is deeply rooted to the unique history of the Naga people is the only viable regional political party representing the identity and the aspirations of the Naga people, adding that since the inception of the party, it was the only party to support the Naga movement. “Today also the party is to protect the regional interest of our people in various ways such as social, cultural, faith, language, so on and so forth,” it added.
The former Chief Minister also expressed alarm over the increasing number of illegal immigrants into the state. “We should not fear anymore but high time we deal with the true reality else we will become strangers in our own land one day,” the NPF president said.

Referring on the 21 MLAs defection, Dr Shürhozelie said that though they have betrayed their own party, the party functionaries is intact and have no regret for their defection; rather, he said, “it is better to have a hundred enemies outside the house than one inside.” He also pointed out that the present tenure is completing 5 years and now time is approaching for the people to freely select their best leader “without any fear or succumb to any power.” He also asserted that if the election is held, then NPF will try to field candidates in all the 60 seats and will work hard to take over the Government.

Time has come to change the Government: Thenucho

NPF Working President, Thenucho, in his speech during the occasion said that if the election is held then it will be very crucial and important in deciding the future of the Naga people. He pointed out that many political leaders shifted from one party to another but the development in the state remained the same and called for changes in the leadership.

He was also of the view that the Naga people cannot expect development under the present Government. “Time has come to change the Government and if NPF is voted to Government, then all round development will come,” he added.

He also said that the Naga people cannot put their future generation at risk and called upon the people to be united and work and bring corruption-free Government.

The NPF Secretary General, Achumbemo, who also spoke on the occasion said that NPF always stands for honourable, inclusive and acceptable solution to the Naga political issue and that the party is committed to the early solution to the Naga political issue. He also stated, “NPF is surviving for 60 years now besides all weather and the party will exist till the Naga people exist.

He also said that NPF party is not just a political party but it represents the aspiration and sentiment of the Naga people and “the party itself belongs to every Naga people and every Naga people are the owner of this party.”
While recounting the 2003 General election “where the Congress had 59 MLAs and fought the election and NPF came out from nowhere and took over the Government,” Achumbemo claimed that it shows the blessings of the Naga people was with the party and asserted that with 4 MLAs now, “with God guidance, the NPF will form the next Government.”

Earlier, short speeches were also delivered by NPF intending candidate, Zheito Chophy and Central Women Wing President, Yanhola.

NPF Zunheboto Division new office bearers inducted

During the visit of NPF President, Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu to Zunheboto Division on 24 November, the new office bearers of the NPF Zunheboto Division were inducted into office. NPF Working President, Dr Huskha Yepthomi administered the oath to the newly inducted office bearers of the Zunheboto Division and the ACs, NPF Press Bureau informed in a press release. It may be mentioned that the whole body of the Zunheboto Division including the ACs under the division were inducted during the occasion, it added.
