It is Christmas in the heart that puts Christmas in the air. The spirit of Christmas is in the ‘togetherness’, it is love in action. Christmas is doing a little something extra for someone. It is forgetting self and finding time for others. It is when we forgive, take stock of what’s important and become ‘better’ versions of ourselves.
Such a real Christmas happened Thursday evening at the ongoing 3rd Winter Night Carnival here in Mokokchung. The organizers (AMAM) came across one of the stalls that is being run by a group of young friends under the name ‘Help Us Save a Life’.
After enquiries, it was found out that the group of friends had opened the stall in aid of a dear friend of theirs who is ill and needs to undergo further treatment outside but is facing financial constraints. The group of friends decided to contribute amongst themselves and decided to open a stall at the carnival to earn some dough for their friend’s treatment.
Learning about this, the organizers decided to forego collecting the stall fees from this group of friends and encouraged them to further continue their Good Samaritan work. The friends will be running their stall without paying any fees to the organizers. This gesture of kindness shown by AMAM, and the giving hearts of the young friends, goes to show that ‘humanity still exists’.
Christmas gives us the opportunity to pause and reflect on the important things around us. Maybe paying a visit to the stall run by this group of young people is one of them. Christmas is love in action.
