Mokokchung, 31 October (MTNews): The Department of Political Science at Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung, organized the fifth annual lecture in commemoration of United Nations Day with Dr. Deepak Bhaskar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Nagaland University, as the speaker at the Conference Hall, FAC, Mokokchung.
Vinod Kumar, Vice-Principal of FAC, welcomed everyone to the lecture and congratulated the Department of Political Science for organizing the annual lecture series. He mentioned that inviting scholars from various institutions enhances our knowledge. Kumar added that such lectures contribute to making the college an excellent place for learning. The Vice-Principal also led the gathering in the Rashtriya Ekta Divas pledge.
The speaker, Dr Deepak Bhaskar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science at Nagaland University, spoke on the topic, “Democracy, Hegemony, and War: A Critical Analysis of the UN in the 21st Century.” In his introductory note, Dr Bhaskar pointed out that the world is currently experiencing more conflicts than peace. “The world we live in is less peaceful than ever before, with conflict present in every corner,” he said.
He also commented on the reverse democratization trend and the increasing occurrence of anti-democratization worldwide. Problems and conflicts are on the rise, while the capacity to resolve them is declining.
During his lecture, Dr Bhaskar discussed how the UN is being used as a tool to create war-like situations by global powers. He investigated various reports on the UN’s performance in the 21st century and provided a critical analysis of the United Nations’ functioning.
