The Thenyizumi Students’ Union (TSU) conducted its 71st General Session today at the Multi-Purpose Hall, Thenyizumi, under the theme “Resilience and Growth: Shaping Future Leaders.”

Zhonelu Tunyi, President of the Chakhesang Mothers’ Association (CMA), graced the event as the guest speaker.

Addressing the gathering, Tunyi urged the students to uphold honesty, calling it a priceless treasure greater than academic achievements. She highlighted the significance of leadership, emphasizing that it begins at the grassroots level and requires resilience. “Leadership demands understanding the perspectives of the people to effectively guide and unite them,” she stated.

Tunyi encouraged students to judiciously manage their time, as student life is pivotal in shaping one’s future. She called on them to pursue their dreams wholeheartedly while working for the welfare of the community, becoming agents of change.

Acknowledging the gaps in understanding between children and parents, she advised students to respect their parents’ sacrifices and hard work. She exhorted them to limit screen time and focus on meaningful pursuits.

Tunyi also stressed the importance of equal educational opportunities for both men and women, urging girls to strive for excellence and compete globally, while encouraging boys to work harder.

Further, she advocated for greater societal support for women’s ventures and inclusivity to bolster growth and empowerment.

Village Council Chairman (VCC) Medothi Rhakho praised the students’ achievements and encouraged them to continue striving for excellence.

Nehuto Rhakho, Assistant General Secretary of the Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU), lauded Thenyizumi for being a model village in its pursuit of excellence. He emphasized the importance of unity, collaboration, and recognizing individual uniqueness to build a better future. Rhakho also underscored the need to integrate modern education with scriptural wisdom, enabling students to become beacons of light in their communities.

In his presidential address, John Swiho commended the accomplishments of TSU members, describing resilience as the strength to rise above adversity and thrive amidst uncertainty. He defined growth as the courage to step out of comfort zones and pursue continuous improvement. Swiho envisioned future leaders rooted in integrity, vision, and purpose, noting that education encompasses more than academic achievements—it is a holistic process that instills moral values, life skills, and a commitment to serving others.

Swiho reminded students that they are the torchbearers of the village’s future and encouraged them to uphold traditional values while embracing innovation and change. He urged members to work together to turn challenges into opportunities, leaving a legacy that inspires future generations.

Earlier, the invocation prayer was led by Rev. Fr. Mhasikholie Martin Swiho, followed by a folk song presentation by the Thenyizumi Women Society and a solo performance by Vevo Resu. Kelülü Dawhuo presented the education and statistical report, and the program was led by Aveto Resu. The benediction was pronounced by C. Kroso Kezo, Pastor of Thenyizu Baptist Church.

TSU also honored its members who excelled in academics and other fields during the session.

In the afternoon, Vileno K Thisa, District Mission Coordinator (DMC), District Hub for Empowerment of Women (DHEW), Phek, addressed the session as the speaker.
