The National Socialist Council of Nagaland (Unification) [NSCN (U)] has issued a strong rebuttal to a recent press release issued by the Federal Government of Nagaland (FGN), asserting the existence of only one Unification government representing the Naga people. This statement, aimed at clearing confusion, addresses what NSCN (U) calls the “ill-informed” claims made by the FGN on August 4, 2024.
“There is only one Unification Government under the banner of GPRN/NSCN led by his Excellency the President, Gen. (Retd.) M.B. Neokpao Konyak, and most respected Ato Kilonser, Alezo Venuh,” the statement said.
The NSCN (U) further clarified the status of former leader Kitovi, stating that he was impeached on April 21, 2024, and no longer holds the position of General Secretary within the Unification Government.
Additionally, the NSCN (U) corrected the FGN’s claim regarding Kilonser Azheto Chophy, affirming that Chophy is a Member of Collective Leadership (MCL) and not the President of the Unification Government as stated by FGN.
