Former Nagaland Finance Minister and former NPCC president K Therie has called upon the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) to pass a resolution urging the implementation of the long-pending political solution between the Government of India and Naga political groups.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Therie said the top priority for the people of Nagaland should be a “peaceful solution,” one that stands “above religious division, political boundaries, factions and tribal divide.”

He noted that while agreements have been signed after years of negotiation, the continued delay in implementation has weakened public trust.

Referring to NSCN (IM) general secretary Th. Muivah’s insistence on a separate flag and constitution, Therie questioned whether such key issues could have been “forgotten while drafting and signing the Framework Agreement,” which was concluded after more than 19 years of dialogue.

Therie alleged that Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio’s move to demand a new interlocutor for fresh talks “pushed Shri Th. Muivah into a tight corner instead of rescuing.” He stated that the Union Home Ministry had already rejected this proposal in September 2025, reiterating that the talks were concluded on October 31, 2019.

He further maintained that the Government of India’s continued wait for Muivah’s nod to implement the agreements “is uncalled for,” asserting that “it is the prerogative of the State and the Union Government of India.”

According to Therie, the current stalemate lies between the Government of India and the Nagaland state government, not between the Centre and the NSCN (IM) or NNPGs, as both groups still stand by the Framework Agreement and the Agreed Position.

Stating that the agreements are now “historical documents,” Therie urged the NLA to “pass a resolution to cooperate with the Government of India in the implementation of the negotiated agreements,” calling it a necessary step toward an honourable and acceptable solution.
