Mokokchung District Bar Association was established in 1972 with six members. Tajenyuba Ao from Mangmetong Village was the first advocate from Mokokchung district.

Justice S. Serto in his speech noted that becoming a lawyer is not an easy task, while highlighting that the establishment of the Bar Association in the state has been challenging but successful owing to the sacrifice of the past dignitaries who have worked tirelessly and appreciated the lawyers of Mokokchung for striving further with the efforts and determination on the principles of law.

He remarked that the life of a lawyer is not as easy as one may imagine, and stated that tenacity leads to achievement. He went on to say that the service of lawyers is significant because the country is controlled by rules and that “those who respect and obey the laws are one step ahead of those who do not follow the law,” adding that “Lawyers responsibility stays the same.”

He claimed that in a society where there is lawlessness, anarchy ensues, and no progress can be expected since law fosters a more civilized society. And he went on to say that a chaotic society is the result of a lack of vision. He urged people to maintain and respect the law in their professions and to increase legal awareness. He stated that societal traditions and norms must be observed in order to sustain social harmony.
