A three-day capacity-building program on Career Counseling for Block Level Resource Persons began today at SCERT, Kohima. The program is organized by Samagra Shiksha Nagaland and the Directorate of School Education, in collaboration with Antarang Foundation, Mumbai, Maharashtra.

In his address at the inaugural session, Thavaseelan K, Principal Director of the Directorate of School Education, emphasized the importance of providing comprehensive career guidance to students in the state to help them choose careers based on their interests and abilities. Thavaseelan also highlighted the need to introduce career guidance from Grade 6, noting that herd mentality often influences children’s career choices rather than their own interests and aptitudes.

He commended Samagra Shiksha and the Antarang team for initiating this crucial training program for the state.

Earlier, Priya Agarwal, Founder Director of Antarang Foundation, Mumbai, expressed her gratitude to the Commissioner & Secretary of School Education, SCERT, the State Mission Director of Samagra Shiksha, and the Principal Director of School Education for facilitating the partnership with Antarang Foundation. She shared her excitement about working with the state of Nagaland to provide a much-needed career counseling program to help students choose suitable careers.

Dr. Bijano Murry, Joint Mission Director of Samagra Shiksha, chaired the inaugural session.

A total of 83 Block Level Resource Persons, along with state officials from the Directorate of School Education, NBSE, and Samagra Shiksha, are attending the training program. The trained Resource Persons will provide career counseling to students across the state.

The program will continue until October 25.
