Vishal Mega Mart, a retail chain, officially inaugurated a new three-storey outlet at Yimyu Ward, Mokokchung, on July 18. The newly inaugurated store offers a wide range of products—from clothing and groceries to household essentials—all under one roof, and is expected to enhance local shopping convenience while generating employment. The store will be open all days of the week from 7:30 am to 7:30 pm.
Proprietor Kilangzulu, speaking at the opening, shared that it took exactly 1 year, 9 months, and 28 days to complete the project. He extended gratitude to Khensa Village, Yimyu Ward, and the wider Mokokchung community for their support throughout the construction phase.
“This will serve as an opportunity for creating employment for unemployed youths,” Kilangzulu told MT adding that “truth and honesty is the way ahead for creating a good business culture.” He also noted that with the increasing congestion in the town, this new outlet provides a much-needed expansion.
ADC Mokokchung Atsung Walling, who inaugurated the store by cutting the ribbon, said the community had been eagerly waiting for the launch. “The consumer population in Mokokchung may not be as large as Kohima or Dimapur, but Mokokchung has a strong middle class. That makes it a good place for a convenience store like this,” Walling remarked.
Watimeren, who played a key role in connecting Vishal with Mokokchung, shared that the company was convinced to enter the district after observing Mokokchung’s connection with neighboring districts such as Longleng, Zunheboto, Tuensang, and even Upper Assam. He believes the store’s arrival marks a step forward in introducing structured entrepreneurship to the area. “With the coming of a company, they’ll come to know the culture of our local people,” he told MT.
So far, around 30 employees have been hired at the store.
Bishnu Saikia, Manager of the new outlet, said Vishal decided to expand to Mokokchung after seeing positive results in Wokha and Mon. He expressed confidence in the brand’s affordable pricing model. “We hope to serve the people of Mokokchung with easily affordable products,” Saikia said.
