The Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) has submitted a representation to the Director General of Police (DGP), Nagaland, Kohima, calling for the inclusion of Tikhir tribe aspirants from Noklak district in the current Nagaland Police recruitment and the establishment of a common recruitment centre at Shamator for candidates from Noklak, Shamator and Kiphire districts.

In its representation addressed to the DGP, the Council stated, ”With due respect, the Tikhir Tribal Council (TTC) on behalf of Tikhir Community would like to bring to your kind notice that the Tikhir tribe residing under Noklak district has been left out from the recent recruitment notification for Nagaland Police constable posts. This exclusion has caused deep concern and disadvantage to the deserving candidates of our community.”

Further, the Council said, ”Considering the geographical and administrative convenience of the Tikhir tribe spread across Noklak, Shamator and Kiphire districts, and in the largest interest of ensuring equal opportunity, accessibility, and convenience for the aspirants, the TTC request the competent authority to kindly establish a Common Recruitment Centre at Shamator for Tikhir candidates, covering all three districts mentioned above for 13 posts of Tikhir quota.”

The representation listed five key appeals to the Police Department. First, it urged the DGP to ”include the Tikhir tribe residing under Noklak district in the upcoming Nagaland Police recruitment quota so that intending candidates from Noklak district can participate for the 13 posts of Tikhir Quota.”

Second, the TTC requested the authorities to ”establish a common recruitment centre at Shamator for all the Tikhir tribe candidates of Noklak, Shamator and Kiphire districts.”

Third, the Council asked that the department ”kindly include and mention in the district wise post allocation of Tikhir Quota under Noklak district for the Tikhir community residing at Thonoknyu town, Thonoknyu village, Tükhenkiu village and Thongsonyu village in the future recruitment in order to avoid any confusion.”

Fourth, the TTC sought the DGP’s permission to provide inputs for future recruitments, stating, ”Kindly allow us to give suggestion in the future recruitment for district wise post allocation of Tikhir community (Tikhir quota) viz, Noklak, Shamator and Kiphire districts. The TTC wishes to find out the accurate percentage from the three districts and submit to your esteemed office so that equal opportunity is availed basing on the population.”

Finally, the TTC highlighted issues relating to documentation, stating, ”The Tikhir Tribal Council will issue NOC for the Tikhir candidates, the candidates who possess NOC from TTC office should not reject their documents as many Tikhir community might have written Yimkhiung in their documents that is before our Tikhir tribe was officially recognised.”

Emphasizing the importance of the appeal, the Council wrote, ”Your sympathetic consideration and prompt action on this genuine representation will go a long way in ensuring oneriess, inclusivity, and equal opportunity for the Tikhir youth to participate in the Police recruitment. The TTC believe that such a step would not only promote fairness and inclusivity but also encourage the greater participation of the youth from our community in the Police recruitment processes.”

The representation was signed by P Timong Tikhir, President of the TTC, and James Tikhir, General Secretary.
