Mokokchung, 21 September (MTNews): Pradyot Kishore Debbarman, a Central Working Committee member and the founding chairman of TIPRA Motha party, has called upon the Tiprasa community in Tripura to peacefully protest and apply pressure on the Central government to address their demand for a “constitutional solution.”

Debbarman emphasized that if the Centre does not provide assurance before the proposed delimitation in 2026, the future of the Tiprasa community could be in jeopardy. He stated, “All necessary actions must be taken before the delimitation. After the delimitation, we may face an existential crisis if we do not secure constitutional rights for our Tiprasa brethren.”

Expressing his belief in the importance of a united movement, he urged the entire community to set aside political differences to secure their future. He conveyed this message to his followers through his customary audio message, stating, “Through a peaceful movement, we can send a strong message to the Indian government and the entire nation.”

Regarding state-level leaders, Debbarman claimed that the attitude of the Indian government differs from that of state-level leadership. He mentioned that discussions with the Central government were progressing positively but cautioned against certain state-level leaders who were attempting to spread negativity. Debbarman believed their primary motive was to disrupt unity and weaken the community as a whole, potentially leaving them vulnerable after delimitation.

Debbarman also issued a call to tribal society to join the movement, emphasizing the importance of securing the future for the next generation. He envisioned a future where young members of the society would remember their predecessors with respect and pride. “The time has come for the Tiprasa society to act for the benefit of future generations,” Debbarman concluded.

It may be mentioned here that the indigenous Tiprasa community are a minority in the state of Tripura. In 1941, the native Tripuris made up 62.06% of the population in present- day Tripura, which went down to 31.78% as per the 2011 census.
