The stage is set for the final match of the 32nd Inter Club Cricket Tournament organized by the Mokokchung District Cricket Association under the aegis of the Nagaland Cricket Association at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung as Titans CC and Trebuchet won their respective semifinal matches against Sovran CC and Skylark CC on Friday.
In a nail-biting encounter during the league stages, defending champions Titans CC barely managed to edge past Trebuchet CC. Now, as fate would have it, these two cricket powerhouses of Mokokchung are set to face off once again in the final of the 32nd MDCA Inter Club Cricket Tournament on Saturday.
Trebuchet CC, eager to avenge their last-ball defeat in the league stages, promises to make the final match a spectacle for the cricket enthusiasts of Mokokchung. Titans CC, having entered the final by defeating Sovran CC in the semifinals, is looking to secure their third consecutive title in as many years.
In the semifinal clash against Sovran CC, Titans showcased their dominance, restricting Sovran to a modest total of 96 runs. Merenchemba’s impressive 42 runs and Moanungsang’s 20 runs were the only highlights in Sovran’s innings, as Tongpang and Longsasunep from Titans scalped three wickets each. Titans chased down the target of 96 runs in just 13.3 overs, with Andrew top-scoring with 41 runs and Longsasunep providing a quick-fire unbeaten knock of 28. Salangdangba was the lone successful bowler for Sovran, accounting for all three wickets.
On the other side, Trebuchet CC secured their spot in the final by defeating Skylark CC in the first semifinal. Electing to bat first, Trebuchet posted a formidable total of 165/5 in 20 overs, with Talikaba and Bablu Deka scoring 44 and 38 runs, respectively. Vijay Rai (2/20)and Temjenmeren (2/36)were the standout bowlers for Skylark.
Skylark, in their run chase, fell short, managing only 134/9 in 20 overs. Trebuchet’s Imnayanger and Chubaodang picked up two wickets each, securing the win by 31 runs.
The Final match between Titans CC and Trebuchet CC is scheduled to take place tomorrow at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex, commencing at 10 am. The organizers have invited cricket enthusiasts in Mokokchung to come and witness what promises to be an enthralling clash between these two cricket titans.
