Tovihoto Ayemi encourages Sumi Community to be responsible organization

A delegation from the Sumi Community Old Ministers Hill, Kohima, led by Chairman Obed M Kinimi and General Secretary Vitoka K Aye, paid a courtesy visit to Tovihoto Ayemi, Advisor for Tribal Affairs and Election, Government of Nagaland, on June 12, at his official residential quarter at Old Ministers Hill, Kohima.


As per an update received here, Tovihoto Ayemi encouraged the Sumi Community to live as a responsible organisation and develop relationships with other Naga communities in the state capital. He urged them to set a positive example that benefits Naga society.

Ayemi noted that working in civil society organisations is a voluntary service, but emphasised that leaders are chosen for their capability to take responsibility. He encouraged the community to continue preserving and practising indigenous Sumi cultural heritage and games, ensuring that the present generation can appreciate and carry forward the rich culture.

Vitoka K Aye, General Secretary of Sumi Community Old Ministers Hill, highlighted the upcoming Tuluni Festival, scheduled for July 8, 2025. He informed that the community is preparing to showcase indigenous cultural games in a unique way for the upcoming Tuluni festival, including, traditional fire-making by junior age groups, folk songs, ululation competitions for males and females, püxa kuxu competition for women, tug of war competition, indigenous war dance, Thishole women folks song and many more indigenous games.

The Sumi Community Old Ministers Hill, Kohima, currently comprises 86 households. The community celebrated its silver jubilee (1993-2018) on July 7, 2018.

Obed M Kinimi, Chairman of Old Ministers Hill Kohima, expressed gratitude to Advisor Tovihoto Ayemi for allocating his residential quarter for the Tuluni Festival celebration on July 8 and for showing genuine concern for the Sumi Community.
