The muzzle loading shooting experience is witnessing a growing interest among the tourists from far and near. This traditional activity, deeply rooted in local heritage has become a unique attraction during the Hornbill Festival at Kisama.

Two Konyak gunsmiths from Changlangshu village, Mon district K. Moba and Nyeiba, having experience of 35 years in gun making, have made shop at Craftscape, Kisama showcasing the traditional way of gun making. Their products, known for their quality and durability, are being sold across Nagaland and outside the state. They also take special orders on request and are also making them at the site. Single barreled guns cost 8,500 rupees while the double barreled guns are priced at 18,000 rupees.

The Konyak Nagas are expert gunsmiths. Their origin of gun making is obscure but the knowledge has existed within the community for a long time. Historically, these guns are handmade by blacksmiths in the villages using a combination of wood and metals often recycled from old materials.

The Konyak morung provides visitors with an experience of muzzle loading gun shooting and is attracting many visitors at the ongoing Hornbill Festival. A fee of Rs. 200/- per shot allows tourists to experience the thrill of firing historic muzzle loading guns under supervision. These guns, which date back to centuries old traditions, were once a vital part of the region’s hunting and defensive practices.

Poangba Konyak, a skilled artisan and entrepreneur hailing from the village of Changlangshu in Mon district, Nagaland, is showcasing his meticulously handcrafted muzzle-loading guns at the ongoing Naga Heritage Village event in Kisama. Visitors can find his impressive creations displayed prominently at stall No. 77 within the Handloom & Handicraft Pavilion. Poangba, has previously demonstrated his exceptional gunsmithing talents at the renowned Hornbill Festival last year as well. His intricate muzzle -loading guns, each a testament to his dedication and craftsmanship, are available for purchase at prices starting from ₹9,500. Those captivated by the artistry and heritage embodied in these traditional firearms are warmly invited to visit Poangba’s stall and witness firsthand the skill and passion he pours into his craft.
