At least five persons were reportedly killed on the spot in a tragic bus accident at 10th Mile along the Kohima–Dimapur road on Saturday, involving members of a church unit from Chümoukedima.
According to preliminary information, the victims were returning after attending a “Day of Repentance” program organised by the Mokokchung Town Ao Baptist Churches Mission, held on January 30 and 31 in Mokokchung town.
The accident is alleged to have occurred due to brake failure; however, official confirmation on the exact cause is awaited.
Further details regarding the identities of the deceased and the circumstances leading to the accident are awaited from the authorities.
Meanwhile, according to Rev Puryapang, chairman of the Mokokchung Town Ao Baptist Churches Mission (MTABCM), more than 50 members of the Chumoukedima Ao Baptist Church attended the ‘Day of Repentance’ program. They were lodged at Artang Baptist Church, Mokokchung during their stay here. He also said that further details were awaited.
