The Kohima Yikhum Union (KYU) has reported a tragic drowning incident involving Rendemo Odyuo, a 25-year-old student, on June 27, 2024. According to KYU, Rendemo was swept away by a flash flood in the Dzüvürü River around 4:00 PM. The union has urged residents of villages along the Dzüvürü -Dzüü-Doyang River in Kohima, Zunheboto, and Wokha districts to remain vigilant and report any relevant information.

In a separate incident, Shwesinlo Kemp, a 27-year-old soldier, drowned in Nsonji Lake in Tseminyu district on June 30. The District Disaster Management team confirmed that Shwesinlo was found near New Sendenyu village. The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) recovered the body at 4:40 PM on July 2. Search and recovery operations involved NDRF personnel from Kohima, local district officials, police, and volunteers from Sendenyu village and nearby area.
