The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has released its latest Independent Drive Test (IDT) results for the North East Licensed Service Area (LSA), covering Dimapur and Kohima in Nagaland as well as Itanagar, Naharlagun, and the Itanagar–Bumla Pass highway in Arunachal Pradesh.

Conducted between June 2 and June 23, 2025, the drive test evaluated mobile network performance across multiple technologies (2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G) and usage environments—urban city roads, institutional zones, rural pockets, and high-traffic hotspots. The objective was to assess real-world service quality experienced by users of different telecom service providers (TSPs).

In Nagaland, the tests covered Dimapur and Kohima, evaluating areas such as Khushiabil, Nagarjan, Thahekhu, Padampukhari, Nihoto, Medziphema, Kohima Village, Chiedema, and Phesama, among others. Walk tests were also conducted at key locations including Dimapur Railway Station, Dimapur Airport, Nagaland Medical College, Kohima New High Court, Nagaland University, and the Raj Bhawan in Kohima.

According to TRAI, Airtel and Reliance Jio demonstrated better performance in terms of key network parameters such as Call Setup Success Rate (CSSR), Drop Call Rate (DCR), and 5G download speeds.

Call Setup Success Rate (CSSR) in auto-selection mode (across 5G/4G/3G/2G) was recorded at: Airtel: 90.11%, Jio: 89.73%; Vi (Vodafone Idea): 67.18%; and BSNL: 49.45%

Drop Call Rate (DCR): Airtel: 1.23%; Jio: 2.17%; Vi: 3.68%; and BSNL: 6.41%

TRAI also recorded peak 5G download speeds reaching up to 299.92 Mbps, and upload speeds up to 44.38 Mbps at hotspot locations across the tested areas.
