Kohima, November 11 (MTNews): The office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland Kohima held a full day hands-on training on Electronic Voting Machines for district Nodal Officers of EVMs and VVPATs at Tapi Hall, Japfu Hotel on November 10
The opening address was delivered by V. Shashank Shekhar, IAS, Chief Electoral Officer, Nagaland, who emphasised that the introduction of EVMs and VVPATs for elections is a good initiative by the Election Commission of India.
He stated that rumors and misconceptions about the misuse or tampering of EVMs have surfaced, but there is no real proof as yet. He urged Administrative Officers serving as Nodal Officers for EVMs and VVPATs to clear up any confusion for voters and, if false allegations or rumours are made, to take legal action against the person or persons involved. He also emphasized the importance of following protocol when dealing with EVMs and VVPATs.
R. Mhathung, Deputy Chief Electoral Officer and State EVM Nodal Officer, was the resource person for the hands-on training. He presented on EVM/VVPAT-Technical and Administrative Procedures, EVMs & VVPATs Operational & Handling Instructions, EVMs & VVPATs Training and Awareness, and Hands-on demonstration on EVMs & VVPATs.
