NSRLM BMMU-Chuchuyimlang, in convergence with the Department Of Agriculture, Mokokchung conducted a two-day training on management of fall army worm in maize and scientific cultivation of HQPM -1 at Mongsenyimti and Chuchuyimlang villages on 16th and 17th of March 2022. The training was held with ATM Chubainla and ATM Lipoktila as resource persons.

 

 

The team discussed about the occurrence and spread of pest and how it cause damage to crops and reduce yield which could directly impact the livelihood of farmers. A demonstration was given on the management and control of fall army worm in maize using traps and bio pesticides.

 

 

The farmers were also taught on the scientific cultivation of maize and the availability of hybrid varieties. Resource persons highlighted on the nutritional benefits of high quality protein maize, and that it is regarded as an elite feed and fodder for livestock and poultry.

 

 

The NSRLM BMMU stressed that, the Villages under NSRLM is facilitated with Custom Hiring Centre under the Mission, and so cultivation and milling of grains should add to self reliance in gathering feeds for livestock and poultry.

 

 

Inputs like bio pesticides, pheromone trap and HQPM 1 seeds were distributed to the farmers by the Agriculture Department.
