Mokokchung, September 21 (MTNews): A two-day training on NCD Screening (National Program for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardio-Vascular Diseases, and Stroke) for SMOs, MOs, Ayush MOs, CHOs, and nurses was held in the conference hall, Office of the Chief Medical Officer on the 20th and 21st of September.

 

Delivering the welcome address, Dr. LimatulaAier, Chief Medical Officer urged the Health Workers to learn from the training and deliver quality Health Care at their respective Health Centres.

 

Dr. Sentirenla, MO (Dental) IMDH explained the causes of oral cancer, screening, the various methods/ways to detect lumps, lesions, or sores, the seven steps of monthly self examination, when to do biopsy, types of biopsy, and different treatments such as counseling, behavioral interventions, pharmacotherapy, and Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) in her PowerPoint presentation.

 

She further mentioned that early detection of oral cancer plays a vital role on patients which can increase survival chances.
Dr. Alemba R Jamir, SMO (Medicine) IMDH, discussed diabetes, its management and complications in his presentation.

 

He also highlighted about the objectives and strategies of the NPCDCS, the role of medical officers, when to suspect, diet and exercise, advice specific for diabetes patients, life style modification, management of complications, diagnosis and management, protocol-based management of hypertension, classification of hypertension, and strategies for prescribing antihypertensive drugs.

 

He also advocated measures to build capacity at various levels of healthcare for common NCD prevention, diagnosis, and treatment.

 

Dr. Subongmeren, MD (ONG) IMDH, discussed the benefits and limitations of breast cancer screening, cervix cancer screening, and the VIA procedure (Visual Inspection with Acidic Acid).
He added that breast cancer is a treatable disease with better chances of survival if detected in time.

 

He mentioned that breast cancer is ranked number one cancer among Indian females, and is estimated that an Indian woman is diagnosed with it every minute.

 

The trainees were trained on disease burden and trend, anatomy and physiology of breast, breast cancer risk factors, major and intermediate risk factors, breast cancer, breast sexamination, cervix cancer screening, barriers to cervical cancer screening, how to perform VIA, its advantages and drawbacks.
