Truck operations to resume only after road improvements; positive steps taken in meeting

The indefinite suspension of truck operations by owners from Mokokchung, Zunheboto, Tuensang, and neighboring areas entered its second day on Tuesday. The suspension affects commercial truck routes from Mariani, Amguri, and Jorhat to Mokokchung and beyond.

In response to the strike, a meeting was held Tuesday involving the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Mokokchung, the Truck Owners’ Union, contractors, Ao Senden, EE NH Mokokchung Division, and the District Administration. The DC informed MT that the meeting focused on expediting ongoing road repair and maintenance works.

“The contractor was apprised to speed up with the ongoing repair/maintenance works by prioritizing at the most deplorable locations so as to make the road pliable for commuters and trucks transporting essential commodities,” the DC stated.

The contractor assured the authorities that efforts to speed up the works would be made. The Truck Owners’ Union however emphasized that truck operations would resume only once road conditions improved significantly.

“Overall, the meeting concluded on a positive note. Joint inspection of the ongoing works will be undertaken in the early or middle part of next week,” the DC said.
