The Tseminyu District Green Initiative (TDGI) officially launched Phase-I of its Roadside Beautification Plantation Drive on Friday at the Deputy Commissioner’s Complex, Tseminyu, under the theme “Let’s Green Our Roads, Let’s Beautify Our Future!”

The event marked a major stride toward environmental restoration and green tourism in the district, TDGI said in an update. The plantation campaign, which will continue until June 10, targets all villages under Tseminyu and Chulikha Blocks, focusing on roadsides and agri-link routes.

Chaired by Ruchinilo Kemp, Member Secretary of TDGI, the launch brought together members of the Rengma Village Council Chairman Forum (RVCCF), Rengma Selo Zi (RSZ), Rengma Students’ Union (RSU), Tseminyu Town Council, and the Kenono Foundation. The gathering began with Scripture reading and a prayer by Rev Haiwalo Apon, Executive Secretary of the Council of Rengma Baptist Churches (CRBC).

In his remarks, Zukeya Woch, TDGI Co-Convener, outlined the project’s objectives and operational guidelines, emphasizing a commitment to quality plantation over quantity. A target of 25,000 saplings—focusing on indigenous species like cherry and bauhinia—has been set for this phase.

Delivering the keynote, Kikumsungla Jamir, ADC Tseminyu and Convener of TDGI, praised the collaborative efforts and called on every stakeholder to treat saplings like family—nurturing them to ensure survival. She expressed confidence that Tseminyu can become a model for environmental stewardship in Nagaland.

The drive was formally inaugurated with the ceremonial planting of saplings by ADC Tseminyu and the Executive Secretary of CRBC.

As part of the operational framework, each village is required to identify roadside plantation zones, especially near village entry points and routes leading to tourism spots or landmarks. The Tseminyu Town Council is responsible for designating suitable stretches within the town area.

To ensure implementation and sustainability, villages must form sub-committees led by the Village Council Chairman, comprising members like the VDB Secretary, representatives from RSZ and RSU, youth pastors, and forest committee members where applicable. In town areas, the Town Council Chairperson will lead an Urban Sub-Committee. These bodies will coordinate plantation, ensure follow-up care, and promote local participation through churches, youth groups, and self-help groups.

Awareness campaigns will be conducted during the plantation period, and all activities must be documented and reported to the District Coordination Committee with photos and summaries.

TDGI’s overarching vision is to foster an equitable and sustainable environment through inclusive action. By involving all segments of society—from community institutions to government bodies—the initiative aims to transform Tseminyu into Nagaland’s first model green district.

TDGI has encouraged every village and town to actively participate and share responsibility for the drive’s long-term success. “This is not just a beautification effort but a bold step toward environmental resilience and collective growth,” TDGI said.
