Nagaland opened its medal tally at the ongoing 1st Khelo India Tribal Games in Chhattisgarh with a bronze medal in athletics on Monday. Tsuchoi T, a 26 year old athlete from Noklak district, secured third place in the women’s 5000 metres event with a timing of 18 minutes 35.6 seconds.

Representing the Nagaland Athletics Association, Tsuchoi delivered a strong performance to claim a podium finish, marking the state’s first medal in athletics at the multi discipline event.
The Khelo India Tribal Games, which began on March 25, are being held at multiple venues across Chhattisgarh. The event aims to identify and nurture sporting talent from tribal communities across the country.
The Nagaland contingent is competing in several disciplines including archery, athletics and wrestling. Officials said Tsuchoi’s achievement has provided an encouraging start for the team, with athletics events continuing until April 2.
Karnataka leads the medal tally followed by Odisha and Arunachal Pradesh.
