Tsuknungakum Jamir is the ‘Strongest Man’ in Nagaland

Kohima, 7 December (MTNews): Tsuknungakum (Akum) Jamir secured the title of Nagaland’s strongest man by dethroning the three-time reigning champion, Sedevizo Keretsü, in the 6th edition of the Hornbill International Strongman and Crossfit (Men & Women) tournament held at Old NST Kohima on Thursday.

This event is part of the Hornbill Festival 2023, organized by the Nagaland Strongman & Fitness Association (NSFA) in collaboration with the Department of Youth Resources and Sports.

Despite the rain disrupting the event, participants bravely risked their safety to compete in challenging conditions.

The two-time former champion Tsuknungakum Jamir (2017-18) and Sedevizo Keretsü were evenly matched in all segments of the event but Jamir edged out Keretsü by a single point at the end of the final results. Tsuknungakum Jamir emerged victorious with 60 points, while Keretsü secured second place with 59 points.

The competition comprised truck pulling, deadlift, shoulder press, log lift, log race, farmers’ walk, tyre flip, and Naga stone.

Tsuknungakum Jamir was awarded prize money of Rs. 30,000 and a citation, while the runner-up, Sedevizo Keretsü, received Rs. 20,000. Zhapao Movi claimed the third position and was awarded a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.

In the Naga Crossfit category, Bisekhoto Gwirie successfully defended his title as the fittest man for the third time. He was followed by Kiivemiiri Ringa in second place and Imliyanger Aier in the third position. The winner received Rs. 30,000, the second-place finisher received Rs. 20,000, and the third-place finisher received Rs. 10,000.

The Naga Crossfit challenge featured exercises such as burpees, clean and jerk, chin-up, log lift squats, dumbbell front raise, deadlift, and box jump.

Machen defended her title for the second time in the Naga Crossfit Women’s category, with Imsubenla securing second place and Luthono in the third position. The winner received Rs. 15,000, the second-place finisher received Rs. 10,000, and the third-place finisher received Rs. 7,000.
