Tuensang, 16 January (MTNews): Justice Lanusungkum Jamir, the Chief Justice (Acting) of the Gauhati High Court (the High Court of Assam, Nagaland, Mizoram & Arunachal Pradesh), inaugurated the much-anticipated District Court Complex in Tuensang on 16 January 2024.

During the inauguration ceremony, the Chief Guest, Justice Lanusungkum Jamir, emphasized the importance of public faith in the judiciary system. He addressed factors such as the pendency of cases, the need for speedy trials, and the necessity of adequate judicial infrastructure to reduce backlog and ensure a more efficient justice delivery system. Justice Jamir highlighted the proactive steps taken by the Chief Justices Conference in 2016 to identify and monitor judicial infrastructures’ timely completion.

Acknowledging the timely completion of the Tuensang District Court Complex, Justice Jamir expressed gratitude for the government’s support and cooperation, emphasizing the role of all stakeholders in establishing a robust justice delivery system in the state.

TN Mannen, MLA and Advisor for the Department of Law & Justice and Land Revenue, Nagaland, stressed the need to revamp customary law, warning of its potential irrelevance without improvement.

The inauguration ceremony, conducted at the new complex, featured an invocation prayer, a special song, and addresses from key figures in the legal and administrative spheres. N Longshithung Ezung, NJS, Principal District & Sessions Judge, Tuensang, delivered the welcome address, underscoring the significance of the occasion.

Er Sungtiba Amer, Assistant Chief Engineer, CAWD, Nagaland, presented the technical report, highlighting that the project’s total estimated cost was Rs 643.97 lakh, with the overall cost, including additional work, amounting to Rs 672.59 lakh. The construction, carried out by Saramati Construction, commenced in April 2017 and was successfully completed in November 2023. The new building is a G+6 storied RCC structure covering a total Plinth Area of 18,578 sq.ft.

Prominent figures in the legal and administrative realms, including Chuba Yimchunger, President, Bar Association, Tuensang; Lithrongla T Rutsa, NCS, Deputy Commissioner Tuensang; and R Ramakrishnan, IAS, Principal Secretary, Department of Law & Justice, delivered short speeches during the ceremony.

Yarenjungla Longkumer, NJS, Secretary (Judicial), Department of Law & Justice, conveyed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude for the collective efforts that led to the successful completion of the project. The inauguration was celebrated as a “red letter day,” a “dream come true,” a “long-awaited day,” and a “historic moment” by consensus among the participants, signifying the new court complex’s importance in advancing justice in Tuensang district.

The inauguration ceremony also saw the presence of Justice Kakheto Sema, Judge Gauhati High Court.
