Deputy Commissioner of Tuensang, Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa (NCS), has issued a notification aimed at addressing the serious environmental and ecological challenges caused by the rampant use of single-use plastics and plastic bottles in the district. The notification enforces a ban on the following items in Tuensang district, effective from September 1, 2024:

(a) All single-use plastic (SUP) carry bags, regardless of thickness.

(b) All single-use plastic bottles for water and soft drinks with a capacity of less than one liter.

All individuals, institutions, and commercial establishments (including educational institutions, offices, hotels, shops, restaurants, religious and industrial institutions, banquet halls, etc.) are required to comply with this ban. Any violation will result in punitive action. A penalty of Rs10,000 will be imposed for the first offense, Rs 20,000 for the second offense, and for subsequent offenses, permit cancellation will be enforced.
