A Tug of War in Traditional Naga Style competition was held at the main arena of Naga Heritage Village, Kisama, during the ongoing 25th Edition of the Hornbill Festival on December 5, 2024.

Tug of War, a traditional Naga sport, has the potential to foster community spirit and inspire participants to compete at various levels, including state, national, and international events.

The participants comprised tribal troupes, with eight members from each tribe representing the different districts of Nagaland. The event was organized by the Department of Youth Resources & Sports.

In the men’s category, the Angami tribe secured the first place, followed by the Garo tribe in second, and the Konyak tribe in third. In the women’s category, the Angami tribe claimed first place, the Sangtam tribe came second, and the Kachari tribe took third.
The winning teams for both men and women received cash prizes of Rs 25,000 each, while the runners-up were awarded Rs 15,000, and the third-place teams took home Rs 10,000.

The Tug of War event attracted a large and enthusiastic crowd, cheering, jumping, and passionately supporting their respective tribes’ performances.
