Phoenix Shift of Mokokchung named first runners-up
The Collective Tribe from Tuli emerged as the winner of the Open Beat Contest 2026, with Mokokchung-based Phoenix Shift securing the first runner-up position at the contest held at Town Hall, Mokokchung, on September 26.
Organised by Groove Element, the contest featured 10 bands in the final round, with performances judged by a five-member panel comprising Nzan Kithan, Meren Imchen, Jungshi Aier, Ezra Amon and Moalong.
The Collective Tribe, an Alternative Rock band formed in Tuli in 2026, brings together musicians from the Karbi and Naga communities. The five-member band comprises Sarsonot Ronghang, Temjensunep Lemtur, Yimtinungtet Lemtur, Ezakiel Tisso and Bendangsenba Yuden.
Phoenix Shift, a Rock/Power Metal band formed in Mokokchung in 2025, was adjudged first runner-up.
Individual awards were presented to musicians from five finalist bands. Sarsonot Ronghang of The Collective Tribe was named Best Vocalist, while Jongshiwapang of Phoenix Shift won Best Guitarist.
Anok of Blind Pig was named Best Bassist, Rongpangnok Ozukum of ZONI won Best Drummer, and Insanok of ManForce was adjudged Best Keyboardist.
The event also featured guest performances by ARKEEN and guest artist Talimoa Longchar, with Sentijungla hosting the program.
The winner walked away with a cash prize of Rs 30,000.
