Police in Mokokchung has seized a large quantity of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) transported from Assam and arrested two individuals in connection with the case. According to a press release issued by the Mokokchung Police, the operation took place on November 28 at around 9:30 pm following specific information about illegal transportation of liquor.
The team, led by the Additional Superintendent of Police, intercepted a Tata Yodha pickup bearing registration number AS-02/DC-0436 on the approach road to Kinunger village. During checking, the police recovered 6240 bottles of 180 ml MC Rum, 840 bottles of 375 ml MC Rum, and 1104 cans of Kingfisher Beer.
The police arrested the handyman of the vehicle, identified as Arup Payeng, 22, son of Anil Payeng from Michinggaon Sonwal under Mariani Police Station in Jorhat district, Assam. The owner of the consignment, Imkongnichet, 31, son of Likazung from Chungtia village under Mokokchung district, was also apprehended.
A complaint has been forwarded to the court against the two accused under Section 44 (e) of the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act for transporting banned liquor into Mokokchung.
