Mokokchung, 12 May (MTNews): The two-day Tribal Artisans Mela got underway at Town Hall Mokokchung today. The Mela is being organized by the Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Limited (TRIFED) under the Tribal Affair Ministry flagship program, “Marketing and Logistic Development for Promoting Tribal Products from North Eastern Region (PTR NER)” in collaboration with state implementing agency MARCOFED.
Inaugurating the Mela, Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Shashank Pratap Singh IAS stressed on the need for regular interaction between implementing agencies and local artisans to bring about better marketing strategy. Singh also emphasized on the need to promote specific products which are peculiar to the region.
General Manager, TRIFED Head Office, Colonel M Mehra, while delivering a short speech said TRIFED aims to identify local products which can be promoted by expanding their marketing scope through better marketing platforms and also to provide assistance to enhance the values of their products.
The Mela will be providing a platform for local artisans to exhibit their products and avail assistance under the banner of PTRNER and avenues to the local artisans wherein some artisans, be it cooperative sectors, SHGs or individuals will be selected for embalmment by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs.
The products on display at the Mela included metal, cane and bamboo crafts, jewellery, gift and novelties, textiles, terracotta & stone potteries, painting, organics and natural products.
