Two men reportedly from Aoching village in Longleng district were allegedly killed in a suspected hit-and-run incident on Saturday morning on NH 702B (Tuensang road), between Pongo village and Longleng town. The victims were riding a motorcycle when they were allegedly run over by a yet-to-be-identified paramilitary truck.
According to reports, the public suspects the involvement of an Assam Rifles truck in the incident, which has heightened tensions between local residents and Assam Rifles personnel.
Emotions boiled over later in the evening when a convoy of Assam Rifles vehicles reportedly headed for Tuensang passed through Longleng town. An irate mob was seen venting their anger at the convoy in video clips widely circulated on social media. Sources confirmed that no injuries or casualties were reported during the commotion.
The Longleng district administration could not be reached for official confirmation. However, sources indicated that an emergency meeting with civil society representatives was being held to defuse the situation at the time of filing this report.
