NSF mourns; Directs flag hoisting and office closure in tribute to fallen leaders
In a tragic road accident near Shingcha Junction on Thursday morning, two prominent leaders of the Tangkhul Mayar Ngala Long (TMNL) lost their lives. The deceased have been identified as TMNL President Themmaso Tallanao and Assistant General Secretary Masothing.
According to Ukhrul Times report, the accident occurred along the Ukhrul-Kamjong State Road, approximately 45 kilometers from Ukhrul town. Sources told UT that the vehicle carrying three individuals crashed near the junction, leaving both TMNL leaders fatally injured. The driver of the vehicle sustained severe leg injuries and was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
According to the Naga Students’ Federation, the accident occurred while the two leaders were actively engaged in the NSF Reconnaissance Mission to Ukhrul and Chandel, a mission aimed at assessing the “implications of the abrogation of the Free Movement Regime.” The NSF praised their “unwavering commitment to the Naga cause” and emphasized the significant roles both men played in the mission.
As a mark of respect for the deceased leaders, the NSF has directed all its Federating Units and Subordinate Bodies to “hoist the Unit flag at half-mast” at their respective headquarters from October 24 to October 25, 2024. Additionally, the NSF has called for the closure of all offices of the Federating Units and Subordinate Bodies on 24th and 25th October 2024 to honor their sacrifice and service to the Naga community.
The NSF urged all units to observe this directive solemnly, stating, “We urge all units to solemnly observe this directive and pay tribute to the contributions and sacrifices of Late Eno. Themmaso Tallanao and Late Eno. Masothing, whose legacies will continue to inspire us in our collective pursuit of the Naga cause.”
The NSF expressed deep grief over the untimely death of the two prominent Tangkhul Naga leaders. In a statement, the NSF mourned the irreplaceable loss of the two esteemed leaders. ”Their passing leaves a void that words cannot fill, but their legacy will continue to inspire the Naga youth and the broader Naga community in our collective pursuit of justice, peace, and sovereignty,” it stated.
